What to Expect
Before Our Session Together
Myofascial release may feel very different from traditional massage or orthopedic body work. It’s less about “ fixing tissue” and more about helping your body feel safe enough to let go.
I will request that you wear light clothing- bra/sports bra or a loose fitting top. I also ask that you refrain from using any creams or lotions on the entire body as it can cause “ sliding “ on the practitioners hands. Please also refrain from using any scents( perfumes or body sprays)
Our initial session will include a whole body and mind intake including:
patterns of pain
scars/surgeries/dental work
body assessment and alignment
stress levels
sensitivity to touch
past injuries and trauma
My intention is to create an emphasis on comfort, consent and pacing of therapy.
During Our Session
Focus is always on co creation and intuitive healing from the client and practitioner.
The touch feels slow, gentle and still. Pressure is light to moderate, never deep or forceful. You will always be in control during our sessions and your needs are my priority. I will be holding positions on the body from 3-5 minutes or more. It may feel like a gentle stretch, a melting sensation or a soft pulling or unwinding. Nothing is ever forced and your bodies wisdom will always lead the change.
Your nervous system will start to down slide and may create slower breathing, a feeling of warmth spreading, heaviness or lightness, spontaneous sighs or yawns may occur.
Instead of muscles being “worked on” you may feel :
Tissue slowly lengthening on its own, pulsing waves or unwinding, areas releasing away from where the therapist is touching.
This reflects fascial connection and nervous system coordination.
Emotions may surface or not, so some may feel an emotional release, tears, relief, clarity. Others may feel calm and neutral. Both responses are normal and supported.
There is no expectation to” process “ anything. Your body will do what it needs and is ready for.
Many people say “ I didn’t expect something so gentle could create so much change.“
After the Session
Deep relaxation, reduced pain and tension, increased range of motion, a clearer head or a grounding feeling. Some may feel emotions getting stirred up and this too is all part of the healing process.
Later ( hours to days )
Continued softening of movement, improved sleep, emotional steadiness, occasional soreness called therapeutic pain, that is non injurious and usually resolves within a few days. The fascia will start to reorganize itself, so therapeutic pain is a sign that treatment is working.
Hydration and Rest Help Integrate Changes
Post treatment education will always be provided for self treatments at home in between sessions. Questions are welcomed and I will always be available for questions that may arise after our treatment together.
